JULIAN: Hey, Addison, Autumn. I’ve been doing some thinking. I know we need to get more people for the school to stay open. How about throwing a party?

AUTUMN: Good idea! If we throw a party, we’ll meet new people, and we can recruit them! There’s a lot that goes into planning a party… but I might know someone who can help. Let me see if she’s willing to lend us a hand. Hey, Addison. This is Payton. She goes to Hearst High with me.

PAYTON: So, I heard you want to throw a party. I owe Autumn a favor, so she talked me into helping you with the basics. Have you thought about what kind of theme you wanna go with for your party?

ADDISON: Theme?

PAYTON: Um, yeah! All the best parties have themes, and since this is your school’s FIRST party, we’ve got to do something a-ma-zing! What do you want to do?

ADDISON: Hot zombies!

AUTUMN: Hot zombies? How are zombies hot?

ADDISON: That’s what makes the party funny! You’ve got to figure out how to make your zombie costume hot!

JULIAN: That’s weird, Addison.

AUTUMN: Really, really weird…

ADDISON: Come on… give it a chance!

PAYTON: I’m not going to lie, I don’t see EXACTLY where you’re going with this… but I think we can make it work.

ADDISON: So what’s the next step?

PAYTON: A good party needs good decorations. Just like how cakes need frosting, outfits need accessories, and ceilings need disco balls!

JULIAN: Ugh, decorating? Come on. Do I look like the type to get all color-coordination over a party?

AUTUMN: Was that even a sentence?

ADDISON: Look, Payton’s right! But we can do better than a disco ball.

JULIAN: Uh, hello? We’re not done yet! We still need to get the streamers hung up… and we really need some colored lighting if we’re going to get the mood just right!

AUTUMN: Wow, Julian really got into all of the decorating…

JULIAN: What? No! I… shut up!

AUTUMN: Aw, it’s okay, Julian! You’re just getting in touch with your soft, delicate side! Maybe later we can bake cookies shaped like baby animals!

JULIAN: Grrr! I’m never decorating again! For real though, are you making cookies?

ADDISON: What do you think, Autumn?

Autumn is distracted by something on her phone. She looks upset.

AUTUMN: What? Oh, it’s… uh… it’s nice. Things look nice.

PAYTON: Ahem! Now you’ll need to set up an Event page on Facebook for the party. And not just any page. It’s got to be funny, cool, AND appeal to everyone on campus!

Payton takes out a laptop and shows you an Event page.

PAYTON: Shirtless guys in party hats is usually a good place to start, but let’s see what you can come up with.

JULIAN: Hey, guys, where did Autumn go?

ADDISON: Huh, I don’t know… I guess she was acting a little weird earlier.

JULIAN: Hey, you have Facebook open? Let me check something… oh crap! Today’s Autumn’s birthday! And she must think we totally forgot!

PAYTON: Maybe that’s because we did?

JULIAN: Oh, this is really bad… her dad’s out of town. I bet he didn’t even call her today.

ADDISON: That’s got to be why she was checking her phone earlier.

JULIAN: She’s probably all alone. It’s not like anyone at Hearst is gonna celebrate with her!

PAYTON: Awww! That’s terrible! And really, really true. Most of the people there hate her.

JULIAN: Addison, we gotta do something for Autumn! I know we’re busy, but a birthday’s only one day, man… and it would mean a lot to her if we did. What do you say?

DALE: Are you kidding? I was born ready!

BAILEY: I’ve come up with an algorithm for the page design that’ll maximize user traffic. We should be able to reach optimum views in our target market!

DALE: Yeah… I say we just use a picture of hot people dancing.

PAYTON: This Event page looks great! And look! 50 people already Liked it!

BAILEY: Of course they did! I optimize keywords like nobody’s business!

PAYTON: I’m thinking it had more to do with that picture of hot people dancing…

DALE: That’s what I said!

ADDISON: Are we good then?

PAYTON: We’re one building short of the perfect party! Come on, y’all! Let’s get this party started!

JULIAN: Arr! Grr! Brains!

ADDISON: Seriously.

PAYTON: Okay, Julian, party’s over. But I have to admit, the theme was a total hit! Hot zombies… I’ve got to remember that one.

JULIAN: Arr! Grr! Brains!

PAYTON: Julian!

JULIAN: Good times, good times. And hey… did you see that? Because a jock and a prep threw a party, a cheerleader decided to join our school!

PAYTON: You guys did great! And this school is a lot cooler than I thought it’d be. I was worried it’d be all emo kids lurking in a vacant lot.

ADDISON: Well… we do have several vacant lots.

PAYTON: But those are just full of potential!

JULIAN: Yeah, well, if we don’t get 15 students soon, potential’s the only thing this place will have!

PAYTON: Oh! I just remembered something important! I need to get back to Hearst High!

Payton runs off.

ADDISON: I wonder what that was about…

JULIAN: Eh, Payton’s always running around like that. Right now, we need to focus on recruiting more people… and partying’s a great way to do that!
